What it is

AT&T and T-Mobile (including the former Sprint Network) are currently adjusting the throughput caps they’ve historically enforced on local 10-digit long code (10DLC) messaging for business senders, known as Application-to-Peer (A2P) programs. There are new registration requirements and additional surcharge fees will be introduced with this change-up.

In February 2020, Verizon was the first to implement its revised 10DLC A2P program. Verizon’s new program supports additional throughput to its subscribers on all local phone numbers with the addition of A2P surcharge fees.

How does it benefit me?

The throughput limits will vary, but message velocity to properly opted-in subscribers in registered campaigns should be better than the traditional 1 message per second.

What happens if I’m not registered?

Starting June 1st, 2021, AT&T will begin to block messages from 10DLC numbers that do not have a registered campaign ID. T-Mobile is also considering imposing significant penalty fees on your messages if they are sent from an unregistered number and may even permanently blacklist your numbers from sending messages to any of the carrier’s subscribers.

The campaign registry and participating Campaign Service Providers (CSPs) like Tychron are now working with brands and businesses to register their messaging campaigns.
